The corrosion of pipelines in hydropower facilities is mainly caused by the contact of the steel with oxygen as well as water.
Another reason for deterioration of the steel pipes is the abrasion. This is caused by the friction of the water on the pipes and also by the sand and small rocks floating at the bottom of the pipe.
The cleaned area shows the possible corrosion patterns.
After the sandblasting and gritblasting until the standard of SA 3, the sand and corrosion is completely cleaned.
Several simple tests show when the area is ready to be protected in a next stage of the job.
The strong abrasive-resistant Humidur® coatings are used to protect the inside of steel pipelines.
The two-layer recommended system is applied with a full spray equipment in pipes with a diameter down until 80cm.
Smaller pipes can also be protected by means of a special designed robot.
