DZI’s were initially built in the 80s for a blast and recoat of steel sheet piles to stop corrosion for the next decades. With over four decades of experience, these services have grown to a full rehabilitation of the quay wall.
A standard DZI is usually 6 m long and 1,5 m wide. The depth and the sealing configuration are adjustable to the requirements of the specific project and location. DZI’s are deployed from a barge or by crane from the landside. DZI cofferdams are more than a steel box and are equipped with grid flooring, waste collectors, electric control box, dewatering pumps, sealing systems, evacuation and safety gear, lighting, ladders, access platform, dust extraction and climatized air inlets.
Rehabilitation
Once the DZI is in the water, the dewatering is complete in minutes and the scope of work can begin. A rehabilitation campaign can be:
Cleaning of the wall (also UHP cleaning allowed),
Welding of steel components to the sheet piles,
Sealing of perforations (holing) in the steel wall,
Gritblasting of old (sometimes hazardous and polluting) coatings,
Waste and debris collection,
Coating application,
Full corrosion treatment,
Concrete repair of cracks and leaking joints (including corroded rebars),
Backfill injection and reinforcement,
Replacement / repair of quay furniture such as ladders, bollards, tie rods, whalers, handrails, etc.
Total package
This full range of services is offered by Acotec as a total package, including coating application by means of Humidur® Coatings. Humidur® is the perfect match with the DZI-technology to achieve a fast, economical, environmentally friendly and durable corrosion treatment of the quay wall.
